You can tell that Jojopyun is a rookie, but he still played a very good tournament considering his complete lack of experience. Let's hope that he keeps getting better and stays a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

111

u/whohe_fanboy May 27 '22

Yeah, he played well individually. Its EG shotcalling /decision making as a team that's questionable. One for one yeah RNG has better players, but with better macro EG surely could have taken a game or 2.

13

u/MeMoba May 27 '22

On the interview they were saying that he was the one shotcalling/making decisions.

8

u/smitty8843 rip old flairs May 27 '22

That makes hid individual play more impressive. Shotcalling needs real game experience to improve, hopefully some LCS teams can challenge them bvia macro

Absolutely! They have proven themselves to be a real teamfighting threat against the best teams in the world. Their macro play stopped them from reaching the teamfights while in the late game and was what RNG exposed to consistently to find pick after pick. Overall positive showing from the rookies and a lot to take from it!

which is honestly probably better than most performances for NA. yeah, sucked against major regions as is tradition, but didn't drop a single game to a wildcard which has been an issue for NA for the past years. i'd say EG had a great performance having young talent and making it to final 4 of MSI.

79

u/NfiniteNsight May 27 '22

Honestly, even though they almost entirely failed to convert wins against major regions, the many of the games were very close.

16

u/jaguar317 May 27 '22

Their objective setup/vision control is just too weak right now. Early game/laning could be better, but was passable in most games. Teamfighting is pretty strong. But everytime, they are walking into complete darkness. They are getting flanked from angles that you could never conceive of in NA. When they try to flank, they haven't properly pushed out the enemy vision and get caught on the flank. That's what I see is the difference between NA and the other 3.

→ More replies

14

u/PLACE_BOT_9999999999 May 27 '22

Yeah a 1-12 record doesn't do their performance justice. At least 5 of those losses were very close games where they were giving teams like T1 and RNG a run for their money, which is insane. It's not just random korean teams it's the two best teams in the world and they kept up.

Seriously, Danny and Vulcan need to improve their 2v2. Throughout the whole MSI they have given a lot of kills and never gaining any advantage on lane by themselves. This might not be punished in NA, but you cant win a pool 1 region losing the 2v2 all games and giving free kills.

I think his build on Ornn was absolutely terrible but, at least for the last game, I can't overstate how absolutely painful it is to play Ornn into Braum.

19

u/Dmienduerst May 27 '22

This game at least him blowing unbreakable backwards lets Danny open up.

7

u/-Ophidian- May 27 '22

That happened once, but realistically he doesn't even have to blow it backwards, he can just stop the second charge since the first is negligible anyway.

6

u/thepromisedgland May 27 '22

Honestly, at the Elder fight, I think if Impact just threw out his ult right away, EG wins game 3. RNG can't fight there without funneling in, if you force out Braum shield early, they just eat a whole MF ult and die (or more likely just give Elder and you get it on 5, then you can aggressively force a teamfight with the buff).

This series perfectly sums up EG at this tournament for me:

Always competitive but still never quite there.

reminded me of C9 last year, their record was trash but every game couldve went either away

RNG seriously needs to stop trying to turn small loses into wins when all they end up doing is running it down. Secure baron and you are 2v3? Just run but instead they fight and get aced. And then this game again where they suicide all into baron against a Viego.

121

u/Philiq May 27 '22

I mean they were clearly limit testing at points, like gala walking up solo trying to zone entire EG off baron because he thinks hes just better and can dodge everything

21

u/FakeNoNameAcc May 27 '22

LPL players are always perma limit testing

I mean they were 10k gold ahead with a better late game comp but yeah I agree

Jojopyun: "Actually, I remember one time we were playing against RNG at MSI, and it was 0-2 to RNG. We were playing as blue side. RNG are red side. And Vedius said, "You need to believe."

Teammate: "Did you come back?"

Jojo: "Of course not. 0-3."

Xiaohu just gots the most creative flanks

u/viciouspandas May 27 '22

I remember Xiaohu a few years ago saying how he was mostly focusing on improving his macro because his mechanics were pretty good. Looks like it paid off.

Really impressive by Gala not playing with flash in game 3

EG end MSI with a 1-12 record against major regions. Only picking up a single win against T1.

318

u/Crimson_Clouds May 27 '22

Let's be honest, that's 1 win more than they were expected to get before the tournament.

143

u/sA1atji May 27 '22

I expected that they would take a game or 2 against g2, tbh.

Eh they also went 8-0 against minor regions

544

So the true gatekeepers between major and minor regions.

252

u/Alilaah May 27 '22

NA always has been the gatekeeper

u/Baldoora May 27 '22

NA is the true Diamond 1 99lp of competitive league

u/Asolitaryllama RmembrTheAyyLMAO May 27 '22

I'll have you know we are Masters 0 LP constantly running it down so our Diamond teammates can't make it to Masters.

Good Effort. Dont think anyone can be to upset with EG over their play

450

u/Circleseven May 27 '22

Yet plenty of people in here punching down on them for no reason. I'm proud of these young players going out and giving their best against such a clearly strong team.

77

u/Phasedsolo May 27 '22

EU and NA fans forget that there is a very high chance that their team would also lose 3-0 to RNG, youngsters did fine, it's not easy to play against RNG in such an important match.

Cause

  1. League Players = Toxic

  2. NA BAD LUL

Reading through the comments, it looks like people are generally satisfied with EG's performance at MSI.

I'm still shocked that they made it to MSI in the first place. It's been pretty awesome to witness all this while being an EG fan, especially after a bit of a rough split. That being said, that same "consistency" in BO1s paid off here in terms of getting to semis.

Thanks for taking us along for this ride EG. Good shit. Hopefully they don't have to work miracles to get to worlds.

58

u/f0cus622 is that a short joke May 27 '22

I know it played out like we expected, but holy shit was it great to see an NA team not roll over and die, and actually keep making proactive plays. Thanks for a solid MSI, EG.

Same problems in Game 3 as in Game 2.

GP just free scaling, mid game comes and EG don’t know how to be proactive. It is always a re-engage. Game lasted a bit longer because Gala ego-ed again lmao

Really surprised no ban on GP.

Say what you want Games 2 and 3 were bangers.

82

u/sznfrk May 27 '22

If Inspired doesn't hexgate there EG get baron as well as elder

yolo for GP lmao

26

u/lemoogle May 27 '22

I mean, if RNG doesn't try to skip Elder and end after elder fight they get Elder + Baron + GG.

RNG playing with their food giving NA hopium.

17

u/thonmaker4mvp May 27 '22

EG had 2 barons and 1 elder in G3 and only managed to get 1 t2 all game. They just won objective teamfights and then just sat in base until eventually they lost a teamfight and rng took their base. Frustrating to watch.

Should MSI have RNG and EG redo their series in case it was a big fluke?

No disrespect to RNG, I'm a firm believer that LPL talent sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs EG of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few hours in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching EG play great league it's just not fair.

If the EG lose again I will face that RNG deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to EG and MSI.
