i actually don't think the dog did this.
i think she did this and the dog was there for it and it was fun for the dog.

Spazzy little shits they are. Never understood why my dog tried to fight every single one he saw until I spent more time around them. I know it's always more the owners than the dog itself though. These guys must need to be walked or played with like crazy.

Wow people commenting on this thread are so far off. Young dogs/puppies destroy stuff. People are allowed to leave their dogs alone sometimes. People used to have to leave the house to go to work. This happens to the best of us.

This is why crate training a dog protects them and your stuff.

I just commented this and got downvoted lol people don’t like crates because they apply human feelings to the situation. Dogs aren’t humans, my dog looooves his crate and that is his first choice spot to chill in
24
u/erbush1988 13d ago
Yeah my brothers dog loves her crate. She hides in it during storms, she lays there when she want's a nap.
It's got a soft cover on the outside that dampens the sounds, blocks light, and gives the dog space of her own.

Dogs are den animals. People need to see things from other perspectives, seriously. It's not a furry human crawling on four legs, think beyond yourself.
→ More replies7
u/frankyseven 13d ago
My dog loves her crate. We also have a pen on our main living level that she will go to if she wants to be left alone and she goes in it when we come inside.
7
u/octlol 13d ago
Yeah people don't understand that dogs naturally love dark/cool dens. I threw a sheet over my pup's crate when she was young and she loved going in there just to take naps. It helps house train them, protect your squishy chew toys like earbuds or shoes, and helps with anxiety while you're away.
→ More replies7
u/whoareyouletmein 13d ago
Yeah one of our dogs was a rescue and had severe anxiety. Her crate was her "safe place" and we always kept it covered on all sides except for the entrance. She absolutely loved it.
5
u/crashcar22 13d ago
Only people who don't know how to properly crate train an animal hate crates. My dog loves her crate aswell, when we say "go to your place" she immediately bolts to her crate
4
u/FenkDaddy 13d ago
Fax my dog willingly goes into his crate after like 8pm to sleep or if he gets stressed from visitors
13
u/Tonytarium 13d ago
Some dogs love their crate, my dog included. Some definitely do not though, and I'd feel bad forcing them in there all day
3
u/ironshadowdragon 13d ago
Don't need to force them in to a crate. People have laundries or back yards. An open crate in a laundry with food and water and newspapers/puppy pads literally designed for this will do the trick
1
u/pending-- 13d ago
I would love to hear an example of a dog that was properly crate trained since 3-4 months old not liking a crate. Meaning the owner did not give in each time the puppy cried. I don’t mean this in a sarcastic way I am genuinely curious.
The only dogs i’ve ever experienced that don’t like their crates are ones that are already like 2+ years old and are trying to be forced into a crate all the sudden! Agree that if the training at that age is unsuccessful then I would also not force them.
2
u/goobuh-fish 13d ago
We crate trained our dog from 8 weeks and one day around 1 year old something scared him and he busted out of the crate. He never wanted to be in a crate again after that and will hurt himself successfully or unsuccessfully trying to escape if we do put him in one. He’s also a pretty anxious dog in general so that plays into it.

u/Calibansdaydream 13d ago
"from 3-4 months old" well there's your huge caveat. Not everybody adopts puppies.

We trained ours as soon as we got him, but he never took to it at all, not crying just would have to force him in despite all the positive reinforcement. He’s always been fine out of it

u/catdog918 13d ago
Yeah my dog goes to the crate rather than sit with us when she’s had enough lol. She loves it and I can’t imagine not having her crate trained

Exactly. I’ve had 5 labs and every single one of them has done this between 1-5 times. It’s just life with a dog. Just like accidents when they’re puppies. Reddit will take any opportunity to assume the worst when a completely normal scenario is far more likely.

17
u/Klubbies 13d ago
This is why you crate train from an early age. Tisk tisk
16
u/Express_Opposite 13d ago
So, as a European, I don’t know anyone here who ”crate trains” their dogs. Does it mean Americans leave their dogs in crates for the whole working day?!
5
7
u/dankiros 13d ago
It's considered animal cruelty and against the law in certain European countries. (You're also supposed to take your dog out at least once every 6 hours, more often for puppies)
In the US crating is business as usual, it doesn't matter how busy your life is of course you should have a puppy, just put it in a cage for 10 hours a day!

personally I use a baby gate to keep them out of the living room with the antiques/curio cabinets etc

Kinda people really, Really irk me
also I should add that I do own and use a kennel, but 5-10minutes in there really changes a girl, she no longer barks to beg for food, but developed her judging face well

If you go out to work and can’t take your dog with you or have someone else interact with it then maybe you should choose a less social pet.

Hard to tell, but those bean bags or cushions don't look ripped open. Looks like someone unzipped and threw stuff all over. Our dogs have done this and the pillows or cushions look like Edward Scissor Hands tried to open them.

I've got one of these breeds. They can and will do that if you turn your back for 2 minutes. Crated or not, they LOVE to tear things apart and even more love to showcase the evidence.
Edit: In fact, as soon as I hit send, I hear the dog running upstairs to find another stuffed animal right now. They need to come with a warning sticker.

I mean, that just sounds like your dog. I have one as well and he’s a puppy, so that’s curiosity and teething central. Even with that, he’s only reached stuffing on a single toy (rip lambchop). He is very gentle and kind to all of his toys. Has nothing to do with the breed, and all about individual temperament.

Lol. That’s an ignorant comment.
Have a GSD/Pitt. Played mental games 30 minutes a day, training an hour a day, and walked/ran 7 miles a day.
My pup still chewed through a crap ton of items.
Let me know what else I should’ve done to burn off my dogs energy to not chew. 😂
